I decided to do something this weekend. I cancelled my World of Warcraft account. It still has til Tuesday, but for all intents and purposes, its gone. Ive done this a few times before, but usually to play a different MMO. This time, Im not starting a new game (though Fallen Earth is looking pretty...). I decided to drop it for a few reasons, and one of them actually has something to do with this blog. :)
Ive not done nearly as much painting over the past 2-3 years as Id done for a long while before that. The year I was at Osan I managed to get four armies painted, one of which was Skaven and another was Imperial Guard. Recently, I think all I have done of note was a small Space Marine force. Something of a difference there, huh?
This past Friday I managed to get the Columbia GW and had a fun game against an Imperial Guard player. Was his second run with the new book, but nearly all the flubs were off of the more confusing bits. I also picked up a Morathi model to use as a Sorceress in my Dark Elves. She is now assembled, and the Pegasus is nearly completely painted. Also, that Master and Spearmen I posted previously as nearly complete. I just need to paint the straps on the spears and base them, then Ill post pics. I also found those Black Templar terminators I had misplaced and did some work on them. Im going to be looking for some boxes of the old Dwarf models for a friend of Deo when I get home, and Im considering starting work again on the newer dwarfs that have been in limbo for quite a long while.
I think this is the most hobby stuff Ive done in a single weekend in months...

Pics!
Here are pics of the Dark Elves Ive been working on. I didnt get the cloth painted like Id been planning, co-worker showing up late made me get home a lot later then I was expecting.
My Red Scorpions 5th Company Commander. Currently on the shelf as he doesnt have an appropriate squad to ride with.
The Cygnar battleforce Ive gotten done so far. Surprisingly fun to paint.
Whats this? A red Thousand Son? You betcha! Eventually I will finish him and his buddies... There is a story behind me keeping the traditional 1k Sons colors, remind me to tell you sometime. ;)
Stuff!
Been kinda quiet here lately, huh? Not that Ive not had anything to say, just been keeping my mouth shut during the storm regarding the new Space Wolf codex. Some people seem to think this is the most over powered piece of crap to come out of GW *EVER*. Others seem to think its fine, no more overpowered then some others, but still pretty good. Some people are ranting about how it looks like kids with playdoh did some of the sculpts... And because I look at pretty much everything I can for the Top Ten, Ive been reading this massive storm of stuff...
You know what? Its all gotten me wanting to play a different game.
Ive dusted off my Dark Elves. The spearmen have been coated in BG metal, then given a wash of Chaos Black. I realized the black was still a little thicker then it should have been, but it looks ok... I then gave them a light drybrush of a BG metal/Chaos Black (80/20) mix. Thats where they stand now. Im planning on picking out the cloth when I get home with black, then giving it a trim of dark blue. Im not sure what else Ill get to, but Ill try to get some pics up of that tomorrow, to test out my new lightbox (yep, I finally built one!).
Looking at the list of models Ive got, I noticed I wasnt too far from having a 1k point list. So close, in fact, that adding a Sorceress on a Dark Pegasus fills it out just fine... I was planning on preordering the SW codex on the 20th, but Im thinking Im just going to take the money and pick the Morathi model up instead.
Other news... One of my co-workers is moving on to greener pastures, which means we will be short handed for a while. What this means is that Ill be working 12 hour shifts again. This is good in that Ill have a bit more cash to pick up my plastic crack. Of course I wont have the time during the week to actually do anything with it... Shouldnt have any effect on the Top Ten, I think.
Picked up the two most recent Horus Heresy books recently, and got back into where I was in the reread order: Battle for the Abyss. Finished that one up and am now working on Mechanicum again. Im probably going to be branded a heretic for saying this, but Mechanicum is the hardest book of the series for me to get through. I am always finding myself setting it down because something else has gotten my attention...
Kinda thinking about Warmachine/Hordes again. Now that I have learned Deo's secret (he is uninterested in a game until you tell him to sit down, shut up, and roll some dice), I might sneak in a "battleforce box" game next time he wanders over this way... Of course this is just in time for them to toss out V2, huh? Still, Ive got those Cygnar all painted, and a lot more Cryx that are mostly done (just the centaur thrall things needing to be finished).

Stuff here and there...
A few different things tonight, sort of a head clearer for now...
A while back I mentioned my Dark Elves, 5 months later I finally got around to priming the models... whoops. They are now sitting on my desk, and Im actually planning on moving ahead with them very soon (either tomorrow or the next day). Still not entirely sure of the paint scheme, though I do know I want a dark metal look to them, so Ill be giving them a coat of darkened BG metal, followed by a wash or two of black. Im mainly trying to decide between red and blue for the cloth areas...

This week starts the TTT over at FtW, gonna be kinda quiet on my ol' blog, and to be honest, Im expecting my traffic to drop significantly. So, what is the future of OtPT? More of my random ramblings I think. But I will still be here. :)
Ive been thinking about what, if anything, I wanted to change about the TTT. I considered sticking to just 40k stuff, and I thought about limiting it to painting and modelling posts. Both ideas got shot down real quick. I was also trying to decide if I should stop posting stuff from the others who post at FtW, since the list will be hosted there... I said screw that idea. No reason to penalize them just for where they post their good stuff. As of right now, the only things that automatically get ignored for the list is stuff thats obviously offensive, and my own stuff. Yes, I know Id be biased towards my own stuff, so I dont even let it in... not that Ive had much thats TTT worthy posted yet. ;)
In the end, there was one idea I had that I am still fighting over. Do I start the numbering over at #1, or do I continue the numbers at #28? Personally, Im leaning towards continuing the numbering, as it shows there is continuity, and this is not something new (for the new readers) and that this is the TTT you know and love (for the previous readers).

The Black Legion is still up on the shelf, fighting for space with The Purge. The unfinished BL models are ranked up on the table itself, along with a platoon of Cadians. The IG have their green done, and Ive got the black mostly done on one squad, gonna finish them off before moving onto the next, I think. The Dark Elves complete the mess in front, and I think most of them will be shoved aside to make room, so that I can actually paint. Im thinking the BL will be boxed up again, so I can make room for the Red Scorpions again, Ive had the urge to paint Imperial Space Marines again...

500 Points of FUN!
This past weekend I drooled on my army books a lot, trying to decide where Im going with this new army bug Ive got. The answer? Nowhere new.
Plain and simple, I cant find anything new and exciting I havnt touched on before, but Ive got a closet full of stuff Ive not done anything with at all. So, I decided to make a 500 point list for each of the fantasy armies Ive got models for, and hopefully will give them each a run in the fairly near future. Im not sure if Ill expand on any of them, but having the lists will make quick pick up games easier... I actually have all the models needed for each of these, though a few still need to be assembled, like the High Elves and the Bretonnians.

Dark Elves, Or I need to decide on a Fantasy army!
When they were released, I traded for a Dark Elf Battalion set, and picked up a hero model as lead. Eventually I managed to get them all assembled, but it was hard for me to maintain interest, since I didnt really have a theme for them. I still dont. However, I think I might try something different (for me at least) and try to actually build an effective army.
So, lets look at what Ive got:
Master w/ hand weapon, shield, heavy armor
12 Spear elves w/ shields and command
16 Crossbow elves w/ Command
20 Corsairs w/ two hand weapons and command
5 Cold One Knights w/ command
First thing I need to do is obvious, I need a Sorceress. More spear elves wouldnt hurt either.
I think Im going to go goal based with this, so I actually have something to aim for. Keith has about 10k of Greenskins, so thats an idea for the outside goal, but Mikie only has about 600 points of Skaven, so thats a more realistic first goal, and I think one met without purchasing a single model.
