Indoctrination

++Prior to a joint action, involving the Raptors and Red Scorpion Space Marine chapters, during the Badab War++

"You Red Scorpions are a curious lot" stated the Raptor.

The Red Scorpion warrior appeared confused. "How so?"

"I have fought with warriors from dozens of Chapters. Some close to their founding Legion, many others, not so much. You Red Scorpions are as close to the teachings of the Codex Astartes as can be. In some cases, even more so then the Ultramarines. And they wrote the damned thing!"

The Red Scorpion bristles at the blasphemy towards the honored tome, but knows its just the Raptor's way of getting his point across. "Closer then the Ultramarines? I find that hard to believe."

The Raptor laughs. "I thought so too, but every other chapter I have ever dealt with has some sort of cultural influence upon them, in the way they think, act, or their temper. Sometimes, its just their names. You Red Scorpions have none of that. There is nothing to you but the Codex. Hell, even your names are drawn from commanders and Sergeants mentioned by name."

The Red Scorpion shrugs. "On my home world, every son is presented to the Emperor in guise of the Moon God on the first full moon after his birth. It is at that point the Apothecaries make their selections. All my memories are of the Chapter. Of indoctrination in the Codex Astartes. There is no cultural influence, because we never had any meaningful contact with our culture. All we know is the Chapter, and the Holy Codex."
