Im a little late on this, been having a rough time coming up with stuff to post lately...
When I first read the question from Ron, my first thought for my Red Scorpions was Space Marine Tactical Squads. Why not? They are flexible and capable in most roles, and they count as a scoring unit! Even if they never do anything spectacular, they are always there for me.
Then I got to thinking, and actually looked at the army I have and use, and I have to admit, my Must Have unit is actually the Assault Squad. With a trio of plasma pistols (two on troops, one on the Sarge) and a Power Fist, these guys can lay down a nice beating when up in your face. Add in a speedy move and 30 attack dice on the charge, and you have the foundation for a really brutal squad.
"What do you mean, a foundation?" Hehehe... One unit, no matter how "Must Have" does not fight alone. What makes the Assault Squad my Must Have unit is that they usually act as an escort for another model. Think a fast unit with melee weapons, a few high power shots, and a Power Fist is nice? Add in an HQ choice with a jump pack and watch that unit SHINE!
A Librarian with a Force Weapon can take advantage of the numbers for protection when hunting the larger targets, and the unit can always use a few extra Assault based shots.
A Chaplain will make the unit a lot more potent when dealing with a mass of lesser foes, though being Fearless can potentially screw you, especially in instances where you actually want to use Combat Tactics.
Finally, the Captain is useful for being an all-rounder, though with wargear he could potentially cost more then the assault squad on his own!
Lately, Ive been messing with not deepstriking, but having the unit spend the first two turns or so hanging out behind cover, then using their speed to smash enemy units that have braved my bolter fire and gotten too close.
My chattering about anything that comes across my painting table, and some stuff that doesn't!

Mini Vacation and planning for the annual
So, I mentioned over on the Top Ten at FtW that Im taking two weeks off later this month. We are moving from an apartment to a nice house! :)
What I didnt mention is that we are about three months out from my hitting the one year mark with the Top Ten. With this vacation accounted for, I should be posting number 50 that week. Now, what I am trying to decide is what to do for it? The ideas I have had so far have been either a double sized edition (boring!), a blast from the past edition (Top Ten from the year past? has potential!) , or maybe a Readers Choice... Now, whether thats readers choice from the year prior, or readers choice from the week online, who knows....
What do you guys think? Any suggestions, ideas, or should I shut up and do the regular week stuff?

Tuesday Top Ten is moving!
Yep, its true! The Tuesday Top Ten is moving to FtW!
When Ron suggested the move, it only took about a minute for me to decide this was the best course for the TTT, as almost everyone looks at FtW, right? All your links are gonna have even more exposure now! Dont you worry though, the only thing thats changing is the location, Ill still be running this show.
Oh, and dont listen to Ron, he last made the list in #25. ;)

The power of the Dark Si... err, of the FtW Group!
I dont think Ive ever replied to a post with a post of my own, yet Ron at FtW asks about the value of a group like this.
Im Johnny-come-lately here in the group, I joined as Ron was becoming the high poohbah on the FtW blog. While I dont reply to as many posts as others do, or even as much as Id like to, I do try to make sure that others get recognition for interesting posts with my Monday Top Ten.
There were a few questions, lets see what I can make stick with those... ;)
Why remain a member?
Why not? Do you know how I found most of the blogs I follow? I went to the FtW page and followed links. And Id be surprised if most of the people who found this one didnt do the same.
Why display a silly little logo and be associated with something that you get no benefit from?
Because I think it looks pretty cool, and something on my webpage has to, I know you all are not coming for the content! ;)
Why be a part of something that has "requirements" like commenting on other blogs and watching what you write and supporting other bloggers if you don't actually get anything out of it for yourself?
What happens when someone says something interesting on your blog, or a blog you follow? You go check out theirs... So, realistically, whats the easiest way to get traffic to yours? Make interesting comments on other people's blogs. What happens then? They see comments on yours that lead them to someone elses blog, where they comment. Later on, you see that comment and go read their blog... see where Im going with this? One of these days, play "follow the comments" and its entirely possible you could end up at your own blog.
Watching what I write... Yeah, Ive probably got some of the fouler fingers in this group, from what Ive seen, and I tend to keep what goes on screen much cleaner then I talk in person...
As for the $64,000 Question: Why blog? The answer is simple. Community. Family. We may bitch, moan, and fight over stupid minor rule details, have factions among ourselves (40k vs Fantasy, FIGHT!), debate the merits of this person over that (who is the better GW Ork sculpter?) and all, but in the end, think about it... Who is there, standing at the next table at the crowded local gaming store, with their models out, just like yours, looking to have a fun game? Any number of us. What happens if you break one of your models during a tournement? Someone has glue, and even odds that its someone you dont know. There are plenty of jerks in our extended family, the competitive nature of the beast almost assures that, but there are many, many more who are just like the rest of us, and play to win, but not at the cost of having fun. But, thats the way Im starting to see it, as an extended family... and while Ill email my real family, this one is the one I really let know whats going on.

Ahh, there it is....
The thing I was waiting about talking about? Yeah, I applied and (apparently, from this blog being listed on the website) was accepted to the From the Warp bloggers group, as you can probably tell by what I added just a minute ago. Guess I better behave myself now! ;)
Also, (and slightly more importantly) I finished up those assault marines, gonna try to get a pic up tonight.
More, tonight I am planning on tossing out experimental rules for First Sergeants (at the very least for Space Marines).
