Fantasy for 2013

I meant to get to these a month ago, honest!

Been completely uninspired with Fantasy lately, was half thinking of not bothering with it at all this year. And then... Chaos happened. You have seen the pics, I wont bore you.

The problem with the current/old book is that is lacked feeling. Very uninspiring to me. Im going off the assumption that the new book wont suffer from that problem (fingers crossed!).

So, Ive decided to start Ryan's Chaos Army X.0. X.0, because I have NO idea how many Chaos armies Ive started over the years. :P Anyways, I decided to "bend" the rules a bit, and have fun with this collection. Collection, not army, take note of this.

Raise of hands, who remembers the Realm of Chaos book? They had a fairly unique (for Warhammer) army selection method in that book. You chose your Hero, then an equal or greater number of points worth of units. Select another hero, repeat. I have decided to replicate this, though Ill probably change it to 1 Hero +2/3 units. And, Im not limiting it to Warriors of Chaos. Going to do the same for Beastmen and Daemons. I plan to eventually have enough models/units to field a proper, legal army (ok, three armies!), but for right now Im just looking for fun stuff to paint. I do have an overall theme in mind, but for the moment lets just call it a gathering of forces in the Chaos Wastes.

As far as painting, Ive got a base color scheme planned out, and will have God-specific variations for those units so marked. Likely cloaks and shields will be in God-specific colors.

And now, to show that this isnt just idle thinking out loud (like usual), the first Hero (a Nurgle Sorcerer) and his Warrior retinue:

Ill lay out more of my ideas once Ive solidified them.

Weekly Hobby Update Thing #9

This week was a joke, as far as painting goes...

I assembled the Warwitch Siren I picked up last Tuesday, no painting done on Cryx models.

I think Ive decided on an alternate color scheme I will be using on my Protectorate models. They will kinda look like the Black Templars, which I think fits. No brush was dipped in paint to help these models, however...

I cased up my Red Scorpions, to make room on the shelf for WarmaHordes models. I am half thinking they are going to be retired for a while, and Ill work on a different Chapter. Maybe.

Lastly, I come to the Chaos Warriors... "Surely you painted something for these guys?" Nope. Far from, in fact. I decided I like the idea of Nurgle Chaos Warriors, but I have no desire to actually work on them for now. They are getting stuck in storage until I decide I want to work on them or sell them. Of course, this leaves me with no Warhammer Fantasy army once again.

Weekly Hobby Update Thing #8

Its kinda odd. I spent almost two dozen months promoting other peoples projects each week, now I am not doing that (still havnt decided if I am going to bring it back), but I am talking about my own (less then inspiring) projects.

Slow week on the painting table. Scaverous got his browns and bones painted, he just needs the green glow done and basing. Hopefully Ill get pics done in time for next week's post. I also did a small amount of work on Erebus.

I decided to slap a few ink washes on my Legion of Everblight models, next up I will be highlighting the flesh, then moving onto the armored parts.

As much as Id wanted to work on my Nurgle Chaos Warriors last week, all I did was touch up the green stuff work. Maybe next week.

Weekly Hobby Wrap Up #3

I really do need a better name for this....

Lets see, nothing was completed regarding the vast majority of my Space Marines, but I did get the base Boltgun Metal done on my Grey Knights.

Cryx was similarly ignored, I didnt even get anything done with the Wraith Engine.

The Chaos Warriors got some love though. I decided that I was going to dedicate them to Malal. Came up with an interesting scheme too. Metal armor, with split black and white on their shields, helmets, and cloaks. I even painted up a test model.... and that is where it fell apart. The scheme is decent. Its simple. It works in person. But I dont want to paint it. It just does not inspire me.

However, I found a Chaos Warrior Id painted up in a Nurgle scheme a while back, and it hit me hard. The colors are a rusty brown/red/orange, with a green cloak. I also got the idea to whip out the green stuff and do some conversion work, so Ive got 20 bodies assembled, and will be giving them a GS bloated gut. I plan to make a post next week regarding my ideas for this army.

Current projects, Storm Fists, and painting list

I came to a decision the other day. As much as I like having an Imperial Fists army, and how they look, I HATE painting yellow, and my army was never going to be finished. So, I decided to repaint them, and resurrect my Storm Fists. This is the colors I decided on...

Black armor because its easy to paint. Red shoulders to add color, but on a limited area to keep it easy. Grey head, trim, backpack, and fists to call back to their original colors (solid grey). Debating between hand painting a lightning bolt for the chapter badge, or using the Fist decal. Likely will go with the bolt, as I hate decals.

As far as rules, I am planning on using them as Codex, with the option to swap to Black Templars from time to time.

Of course, with me being me, this is not my only project. Since I sold off my Tomb Kings a while back, I have been lacking a Fantasy army. Last night an impulse buy made that decision for me: I got the Chaos Lord on Manticore. Add that to the unassembled Chaos Warriors and Hellcannon Id socked away, and Ive got the start of a Warriors army. Now to decide which god Ill dedicate them to...

One major benefit to selling off a load of models is that it has made it feasible for me to make a master list of stuff I need to paint. So... I did.
