WarmaHordes Collecting

So, I have managed to tick the wife off, get a boatload of different models to paint, and stayed (somewhat) true to my rule of "No New Armies". How did I manage this feat? Easy!

Ive loved the Warmachine and Hordes "battle boxes" since I learned about them. A compact, self contained force, that is (in theory) balanced against all the others? Very nice! The fact that they have a reasonable entry cost, and they come with quickstart rules is icing on the cake. I started off with the Cryx box way back when (around Escalation, I think), and picked up the Cygnar box later on. I didnt get any others until recently, when the new plastics came out, then it was the Protectorate of Menoth box, followed eventually by the Trollblood box.

The guys I tend to play against right now are willing to run battle box games, since they are quick and easy and we are still learning the ins and outs of the two different systems. Most of us have decided on our preferred factions, but games against the other forces help with learning how the other factions work.

Of course, we dont have models for all the factions, but we have had a few "counts as" games, to make up for that... At least, we did. As I mentioned, I have four faction boxes already, and the other day, I ordered the other four (at 25% off). This means Ive got models for all 8 of the main factions, with no need to expand anything but my Cryx.

Of course, me being me, I am looking at Mercs and Retribution of Scyrah. Mercs had two battle boxes once upon a time, and Retribution has an unofficial box. I am thinking once my core eight are painted, Ill look into adding these oddball factions to the collection as well, just to keep everyone on their toes. And minions? Well, Ive been toying with creating my own version, just to give them some space as well.

So, I ticked off the wife by spending more then she expected. Ive got 17 new models being delivered (supposedly) on Friday, and these are not armies, just a teaser to get more interesting games going. I win! :)

Once upon a time I felt the same way - why NOT have all of the starters?

Soon after (this was in Warmachine/Hordes 1st edition) I had six forces of over 1000 points, and two rapidly approaching 2000 points.

It's a slippery slope, and at the bottom of that hill lies madness.

Nowadays I only have Cygnar, Menoth, Mercs, Legion and Circle. And, uh, a smattering of Retribution. and a Khador starter. (sighs)
