Im looking at a list right now, a list of what I possess for each of the three battle companies. Not included on this list is all the extra "fun" stuff. This is commanders, chaplains, Tac, Assault, Dev squads, and dreadnoughts. You know what Im noticing by looking at this list? Codex Chapters all look the same on paper. Seeing as my plan is three battle companies from different Chapters, I should work to emphasise the differences in the organization, as well as the color schemes.
Lets start with the one with the most information available: The Imperial Fists. Siege masters, stubborn as me on a cold morning, and a real hatred for the Iron Warriors. So, got some stuff to work with then. Im thinking that the Imperial Fists will be having more Dreadnoughts then the other two, possibly more then them combined. That will help show that these guys have been around for thousands of years longer then the other two chapters. Im also going to keep them loaded for anti-MEQ and anti-tank combat, since they are hunting the Iron Warriors.
The Red Scorpions are fanatical about remaining true to the Codex, and their own genetic purity. Im thinking these guys will be lined up to take on all, in true Codex fashion, being specialised by not being specialised.
Information on the Marines Errant is scarce, most significant is that they served alongside the Red Scorpions during the Badab War, and that most of their gene-seed was stolen by Huron Blackheart recently. From what I remember, he did it by creating many smaller conflicts that scattered their forces far and wide. Not quite sure how I want to set these guys up, but Im seriously thinking of taking biker squads instead of jump pack assault squads. I also think Im going to point their gear choices towards anti-infantry, with an eye towards Orks and IG...

Bunch of pics for ya!
And Tactical Squads, plus the single squad of Scouts I have so far.
Captain, Tac Marine and Devastator from the Imperial Fists. I decided to use the Black Templar bits on these guys, cuz it seems to fit. Ive been slacking on Chapter badges here, cuz I really hate decals...

Rolling on with the "Crusade"
Well, I boxed up the all my Space Marines except the Red Scorpions, the Marines Errant, and the Imperial Fists. Once that was done I reorganized how I had them set on the shelf. Previously they were set up by Chapter (as seen here), but now they are grouped by troop type. All the Tactical squads are grouped, the Assault and Devastator squads have their own spots, and all the command is together... that and pulling the others off has made the shelf more roomy, so its easier to sort out what Ive got going. Im planning on a pic or three when I get home today, so hopefully Ill upload that before going to bed.
In addition to sorting them out on the shelf, Im working on a few army lists that will use models from all three chapters. This (I hope) will motivate me to paint the models in that list.
At least, thats the plan...

Monday Top Ten #9
"Once more into the breech dear friends, once more..."
1. CJ has some really nice Eldar Dragon Jetbikes, and a good "how-to" on what he did.
2. Alvin talks about why people paint, and I think he missed one: some people just paint so they can play at their local store!
3. Vinci76 has an old Grey Knight terminator painted up, looks really nice!
4. Like Drax, I like putting extra thought into an army, but his method/madness is a bit further gone then even mine...
5. Have you looked at Sani's artwork? You should. Really catches the feel of the 40k universe to me...
6. Chris has a Great Unclean One making a messy entrance.
7. On the topic of Papa Nurgle, Huronbh has some Nurgle tanks up.
8. Barjack has Snikrot being all sneaky....
9. Bushido Red Panda has a very well painted Daemon army... I love those Soulgrinders!
10. Mike shows us what can be built with a visit to the dollar store.
So, as many of you have seen, Im seeing what people think of the size of the list... Currently 10 has the majority, but there are a few for 5 or 15... Im personally surprised no one has said 20 yet. FYI, I cut the list down from 23 potentials tonight.

You see it to the left...
I reserve the right to ignore the results of the poll, but I probably wont... unless you choose the wrong answer! ;)
Doing the army shuffle...
Im rethinking some armies, rebuilding projects, and looking ahead tonight.
Imperial Army - Im gonna consolidate the two projects back into a single project I think. It was an amusing idea, but I dont really have the motivation to do anything with it. My current plan (this week! ;D) is to finish what I am working on with the Space Marines, assemble my Imperial Guard and paint them up too. Eventually I want to add an order of Sisters of Battle (prolly the Order of the Bloody Rose), and some Grey Knights... and maybe even an Inquisitor or two! But additions are down the road.
Main plans are Red Scorpion, Imperial Fist, and Marines Errant forces finished up to complete battle companies, and have at least one of every entry in the codex painted. After the IG codex is out, Ill be working on my Cadian 42nd (because 42 is the answer!).
Army of the Dark Gods - This will be the dark mirror of the Imperial Army project. Lots of Chaos Marines, working under the banner of Abaddon (but that doesnt mean Ill be using him!). Ill add some traitor guardsmen to the mix, and hope that GW eventually realizes that people would like to see the LatD list resurface. Daemons will also be involved, but this project is waiting in line behind everything else for now.
Main plans are to fix my Black Legion models, and probably expand on them and The Purge. I havnt really decided where I want to go with them from there, but Im half thinking a second traitor legion will be contributing troops...
The Walking Dead - This is my Fantasy project. Currently its my Tomb Kings, but I want to work up a Vampire Counts force... I had an idea a while back to do a "Historical Carstein" army. The idea was that Id have about 5k worth of models, with large games being led either by Vlad or Manfred, while smaller games would be led by Konrad, or maybe Manfred the Acolyte. This would be the first time Ive actually built an army around special characters. One of the ideas I was playing with was the whole army of Sylvania thing... having the dead, and playing around with the Empire list as well, for the living occupants of those evil lands.
Main plans here are to finish painting the Tomb Kings, expand them to 3000 points, and create a playable 500 or 1000 point list for the Vampire Counts... and eventually decide if Im going to do the Sylvanian Empire list.
Eventually I want to do a second Fantasy project, but Im not sure what it will be. Maybe if I dont do the Sylvanian Empire, Ill do my Akhaz Boki Dwarfs with Empire allies...

Vacation is over, back to work!
Mikie and I threw down again this weekend, a pair of 2000 point Fantasy games. Still Tomb Kings against Skaven. I stuck with my list for the most part, just swapping out the Cloak of the Dunes on my heirophant for a sword on the Tomb King. He was still looking for the feel of the Skaven, and tried a few different lists. I won the first game, but Im not too sure what to call the second one. I realistically only had a single unit left, but there was next to nothing he could really do about that unit.
I also finally added a bit more terrain, in the form of a pair of styrofoam hills. Ill need to paint them up soon...
Lessons!
Tomb Guard led by the Tomb King, and equipped with the Banner of the Undying Legion are HARD. These guys took a flank charge from a rat swarm and a frontal charge from Stormvermin, then another frontal charge (after the stormies fled), and were still kicking ass at the end of the game.
S4/T4 is a lot more special in fantasy then it is in 40k. A lot more useful too.
Cloak of the Dunes was wasted previously, but would have been moderately useful in this weekends first game... and would have saved my Heirophant in the second game.
Archers and hills make for great friends.
The Bone Giant was a lot more useful this time around, and Relentless Assault is a lot of fun!
I now have a special hatred for Gutter Runner Tunneling Teams. I might have to get a tomb scorpion to return the favor.
Im trying to decide if I should ditch the king for a prince, and upgrade the heirophant for a high priest. I never have enough spells to do all that I need to do...
