First the layout.. I have an "L" shaped desk, with my desktop on the short part, and my minis and painting supplies on the long part. Half the time while playing one MMO or another (Im currently paying for three, and in a Beta for a 4th) my elbow is on the side, knocking stuff around. Today, it wasnt.
Im sitting there, making a mess of things with my character, and I hear this little voice: "Paint me!" I look over and see the Black Reach Captain, the one Ive not decided what to do with yet...
BRC: "Yeah, you! paint me!"
Me: "I cant, I dont know what chapter you are going to go to."
BRC: "Bull. You are gonna paint me as a Blood Angel."
Me: "What? Why would I do that, I dont have ANY other Blood Angels yet."
BRC: "Like that has ever stopped you, now get to work, I wanna be basecoated before you go to work."
Me: "Shaddup. Im busy playing WoW right now."
BRC: "Bitch, please. I know where you sleep, and I know where you stash your dirty magazines. Paint me, or else."
Me: ...
BRC: "What are you waiting for?"
Me: "Ive never been threatened by a tiny chunk of plastic before."
He didnt get basecoated, but I did compromise and hand undercoated him. Ill slap a few layers of red on him after I get home. But it did get me thinking about how I want to paint the Blood Angels, and I think Im going to go for the more orange-ish red from 2nd edition. The darker red of more recent times does reflect how they are becoming more tainted by the Black Rage, but with how the WD list dropped nearly all of the rage and pretty much everything that made them more berserker then other chapters I think Im going to go back to the "softer" look. I was also thinking I want them to be more pretty-boys then even the blinged out Ultramarines, so Im thinking bolter casings will be gold. Ill probably work more gold in elsewhere too.
My chattering about anything that comes across my painting table, and some stuff that doesn't!

The power of the Dark Si... err, of the FtW Group!
I dont think Ive ever replied to a post with a post of my own, yet Ron at FtW asks about the value of a group like this.
Im Johnny-come-lately here in the group, I joined as Ron was becoming the high poohbah on the FtW blog. While I dont reply to as many posts as others do, or even as much as Id like to, I do try to make sure that others get recognition for interesting posts with my Monday Top Ten.
There were a few questions, lets see what I can make stick with those... ;)
Why remain a member?
Why not? Do you know how I found most of the blogs I follow? I went to the FtW page and followed links. And Id be surprised if most of the people who found this one didnt do the same.
Why display a silly little logo and be associated with something that you get no benefit from?
Because I think it looks pretty cool, and something on my webpage has to, I know you all are not coming for the content! ;)
Why be a part of something that has "requirements" like commenting on other blogs and watching what you write and supporting other bloggers if you don't actually get anything out of it for yourself?
What happens when someone says something interesting on your blog, or a blog you follow? You go check out theirs... So, realistically, whats the easiest way to get traffic to yours? Make interesting comments on other people's blogs. What happens then? They see comments on yours that lead them to someone elses blog, where they comment. Later on, you see that comment and go read their blog... see where Im going with this? One of these days, play "follow the comments" and its entirely possible you could end up at your own blog.
Watching what I write... Yeah, Ive probably got some of the fouler fingers in this group, from what Ive seen, and I tend to keep what goes on screen much cleaner then I talk in person...
As for the $64,000 Question: Why blog? The answer is simple. Community. Family. We may bitch, moan, and fight over stupid minor rule details, have factions among ourselves (40k vs Fantasy, FIGHT!), debate the merits of this person over that (who is the better GW Ork sculpter?) and all, but in the end, think about it... Who is there, standing at the next table at the crowded local gaming store, with their models out, just like yours, looking to have a fun game? Any number of us. What happens if you break one of your models during a tournement? Someone has glue, and even odds that its someone you dont know. There are plenty of jerks in our extended family, the competitive nature of the beast almost assures that, but there are many, many more who are just like the rest of us, and play to win, but not at the cost of having fun. But, thats the way Im starting to see it, as an extended family... and while Ill email my real family, this one is the one I really let know whats going on.

Monday Top 10 #6
Geez, Ive managed to keep this going for 6 weeks so far, I didnt really expect to go that long!
1. I like SovietSpace's Land Raider Crusader, looks pretty cool!
2. Here is Ron's method of painting red on his Saim-Hann jetbikes.
3. Senji has Roboute Gulliman, Im jealous!
4. Ranillon reviews Dawn of War 2 (the game)... I still need to pick that up.
5. Suneokun has a couple links about playing with your toys with your kids... Im not a dad yet, but when that day finally comes around Ill be looking back at these.
6. Sidestreaker takes on the Ultramarine symbol, and makes it a bit more interesting.
7. Eek's tutorial on sculpting scales for your Salamander Space Marines (or anything else with scales!)
8. I like the Ork's looted wagon, it seems to me to be almost "archtypical". Darksol discusses its abilities and roles.
9. Goatboy talks about having fun with your game.
10. I hate unbased models. Ron shows us some materials for basing that are FREE and easy to use.
As usual, not the "best of the best" of the net, just what I thought was interesting. :)
